President Obama Tweets 3 Years of LGBT Progress Timeline

Perhaps sensing LGBT voters’ shock and disappointment with him for refusing to sign an executive order which would have made it illegal for federal contractors to discriminate against LGBT workers, President Obama’s office today tweeted a polished timeline of all the progress his administration has made for LGBT Americans over the past three years.

Upon looking at the past three years in this visual way, there’s certainly no denying that Obama has done big things for the LGBT community. More than any other president in the history of our country has, in fact.

The only question is whether or not you think all of this is enough, or if you’re expecting the president to evolve on ENDA and DOMA before you give him your vote in the coming election.

OK, so not the only question. There’s also the matter of why his office chose to use light gray text on a white background!

Clearly, they wanted the rainbow to “pop.” And yes, Obama has my vote. He’s on our side. I was among those “shocked” and “disappointed” about the recent story around the Executive Order, but I also know that there’s a lot to his job that I don’t and will never know.

As far as DOMA is concerned, his DOJ is not enforcing it. That’s about as much as we can ask for. Yeah, I’m proud that he’s my president, and will vote for him again.

I think he’s being cautious right now. Most people really don’t want to vote for Mitt Romney, but if Obama gets “too liberal” they will anyway. At least, that’s the way I think of it. So I’m sure he’ll do some drastic and amazing things in his second term when he has nothing to lose.

I don’t care what anybody says Obama has been a GREAT president so far, he has been trying his hardest to make this country more stable financially, and ethically. No president has ever fought this much for gay people and you can’t sit here screaming at him saying you need to do this or why hasn’t this been changed yet… because although he is the president he doesn’t have Complete control. You guys Have to realize there are still republicans in the senate and house of rep. and there are still homophobic people in this country. We have INCREDIBLY gotten further in the steps to human equality. It’s gonna take a long time before we have complete equality, but it’s the same how African Americans were treated. Have a glass half full! It’s illegal to kill and beat gay people now, and the rate of violence towards gay people is going down as the years go by. My best friend who is 28 has a daughter that’s around 8 years old… She thinks I’m hilarious and sweet and doesn’t care that I’m gay. My friend told her daughter “Well you know he is gay right?” and her daughter replied “Uh no duh it’s very obvious, but I don’t care I like him”. This world is changing as we live in it, the new generations are starting to accept us and that’s what counts. Obama is the BEST candidate for 2012, he is the ONLY candidate who is concerned at all for gay human rights. The other contenders want to ban gay marriage and adoption and so forth. Maybe in his second term he can do a lot more for us considering he won’t have to worry about being re-elected. Be thankful for what this man has done for us, because he’s pushing us forward into equality. I know I basically wrote a biography right now, but the gay community need to know everything going on and be thankful for what he’s done, instead of holding out your hand and begging for more and more.

Obama is a disappointment and R-money will probably be worse, so I’m voting for Bradley Manning this November. Screw electoral politics – true change comes through the collective struggle of ordinary people.
