I’m not saying that everyone in North Carolina who hates gay marriage is an idiot…

But this chart showing the link between votes for Amendment One and the number of college degrees per county sure is!

Those areas are Raleigh and Charlotte, the largest cities in NC so of course there will be higher education rates there, and in general urban areas tend to be more liberal. And are you saying that the chart is an idiot?

Liberal ECONOMICALLY speaking, not socially speaking. Stastically speaking, poor protestants are HUGELY socially conservative and economically liberal. They ain’t into “The Gay,” trust me. They might be in the “liberal city” but they’re still backward as all heck.

I’m working on earning my GED (go ahead; commence with the GED jokes), and absolutely agree with this sentiment. While not everyone who didn’t attend college or graduate high school is necessarily unintelligent or undiscerning, as few of you have pointed out, I do think that the correlation between counties with highest percent of its peoples with completed Bachelor’s Degrees and the counties with the lowest percent — them mostly being the ones voting for Amendment One — is a symptom of a populace uneducated enough to know the difference between “voting to ban same-sex marriage” and voting to ban domestic partnerships and civil unions for heterosexual couples. Add a dash of bigotry (I know I’m being partisan liberal now. But the truth is the truth.), and one should expect much fuck-uppery.

As a high school drop out, I will say that people are ignorant for many reasons. Some choose it, and they are the worst kind. But this isn’t about ignorance so much as it’s about clannishness and the attendant hateful rhetoric that clans must use to keep their folks in line.

Yeah, kind of takes a stab at people without degrees. This does bring forth an important correlation though. When you go to college, you’re encouraged in the classroom to have discussions that challenge your beliefs and you’re exposed to people who have different opinions than your own. I’m not surprised that counties with more residents with that kind of exposure to have developed beliefs that trend differently than those who are more likely to have only been exposed to the beliefs of their parents and nearby community.

I do get the point – but one does not need a degree in Human Compassion. Hate is not something you go to college to “unlearn.” I also don’t have a college degree, so it’s kind of off putting to use that as a basis of comparison. But… in the words of the late Miss Blanche Devereaux, not everyone is as “worldly sophisticated about these things As IIII AMMMM.”

No its true people with college educations do tend to be more liberal and open minded. Its not a matter of intelligence though. I just have a GED too but I’m all for lgbt rights. So am I smart because I support it or an idiot cause my patents, who taught me to be open-minded and accepting of all people, couldn’t afford college?

very educated male and was not idiotic enough to believe the foolish lies. It will never be legal to beat women (domestic violence a non-issue), insurance is secure for children, custody laws under an entire different set of laws. The educated and uneducated alike to often make decisions based on what someone told them vs what is facts. Both are equally idiots for not unbiasly studying for the truth.
