NOM Continues to Play the Blacks Hate Gays Game

The National Organization for Marriage’s head hater Brian Brown continues to get his race-baiting jabs in where he can, as seen in this debate with the National Stonewall Democrats’ Executive Director (and Bilerico Project co-founder) Jerame Davis on the UK’s Channel 4 News.

“The people of this country know what marriage is, and they know that marriage is the union of a man and a woman. And I think that President Obama has now energized support for Mitt Romney and he has definitely hurt himself with African American voters, with blue collar Catholic democrats, who have been a key swing constituency since Reagan. So I think you’re going to see him lose this election, and part of the reason is how radical he’s turned.”

You have to squint your eyes pretty hard to ignore the fact that the Obama campaign has broken two fundraising records since announcing his support for same-sex marriage. The president raised over $1 Million in online donations in the 90 minutes following his announcement, and an additional $15 Million last night at a celebrity-studded dinner, the most ever from an event.

But by all means, do go ahead and take this straight, white man at his word when he tells you all about what African American voters are thinking on the issue of marriage equality.

As a student of Political Science, I said this in an earlier conversation: it is a repeatedly proven
fact in poli sci (and that is my problem with WGSS; it doesn’t actually
address political science, and as a result, there are all these liberal
students who don’t really understand why liberals cautiously function
the way they do) anyway, I said something like this: Blacks don’t vote
republican because the Right is not as accepting, though you should look
up people like Star Parker… I’m not implying it is the fault of the
blacks if antigay legislation passes or remains. I blame that on
religion. But you must understand the political spectrum… Let’s say
that fifty percent of Americans are republicans and fifty percent are
democrat. If even 5% of democrat’s do not vote, that means there are
only 45% of democrats while there are still 50% of republicans. That
means the democrats lose. Now factor in all the independents, most of
whom focus on economic issues. That really puts democrats in a tough
spot. And as someone in political science, I can relate blacks not
voting, thus Obama loosing the black vote, to historic examples. Social
media, and accounts from other students, have shown a huge lack of
support from blacks after Obama came out for gay marriage. They say god
is disgusted with him, and they will not vote at all. I have heard this
ALL DAY. It is a reality, a reality that most people do it understand or
see because they don’t understand all that goes into this. In the same
way, liberals get upset when their candidate is not more liberal. But
remember the moderates. When liberals go even five points to the left,
they lose the moderates who are exactly in the middle, and all the other
shift to the left. This is why dems and reps aren’t really all that
different. Because of that, I don’t get too upset with liberals because
they can’t be these ideal liberal feminist LGBTQ people.

I don’t think that black voters will support SSM just because Obama does. Coretta Scott King supported SSM, so does Jullian Bond, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, John C. Lewis and many others. But I believe many will vote for him in spite of his support for SSM because most black voters are not one issue voters. Economics are more important. And let’s remember that there are black members of the LGBT community like me for example: a black, bisexual female.

Why always the Race Card ?? Im so sick of it. Its not a “BLACK ” thing to hate gays. Its an education level thing. The more educated people are the more they seem to be – ok with Gay marriage, according to a post on here. So will Black object to Obama ? as a proud bisexual woman, i am not going to change my views on Obama just because he has decided to support the rights of LGBT. i dont want a president based solely on one aspect. i want a president that is good for the whole country. He has said things before to get him to be elected the first time, and i personaly think that he his now supporting our rights as human beings because he knows he wasnt going to win a second term. I am not going to vote for Obama, i didnt vote for him the first time, and him changing his mind on the LGBT views is not going to get me to vote for him this time. I think if someone wasnt going to vote for him before they arent going to vote for him now. He is not a good president for us, and he never will be a good president for us. Yes it is awsome that he supports us, but that doesnt make him a wise choice for president. We have other people in the running for president who is a better option and supports us. Open your eyes people, please, or you will be the downfall to this country.
