You’ll Never Guess Which Year Had the Highest Anti-Gay Hate Crime Murders
…Or maybe you will. Either way, prepare to get angry.
Even in a world where Glee and Modern Family are bringing in the bacon, Ricky Martin is finally out and proud, and gay marriage is the law of the land in eight(ish) states in the country, more LGBT people were the victims of hate violence murders in 2011 than any year prior on record.
Or maybe it’s because of, and not in spite of, all of those things?
Or maybe the numbers are rising because judges are actually charging murderers with hate crimes for anti-gay killings that would have gone undocumented in the past? After all, it’s much easier to recognize a hate crime if the victim openly identifies as LGBT.
What’s your interpretation of these statistics?
