Totally Depressing Fact: This Photo of Gay Teenagers is Punishable by Death in Iran
How about a round of applause for these very brave, very anonymous, very young, very gay heroes who literally risked their lives to raise a pride flag in a country that would see them dead for it.
Iran indeed is a country so homophobic that those convicted of homosexuality are put to death, and even a celebratory bit of grab-ass on the football field is reciprocated with public lashings meant to crack down on “immoral behavior.”
So whether you dress yourself up in these awesome Pride Shorts or down in just a pair of rainbow undies in your city’s Pride parade this year, let’s all please pause for a moment to appreciate our Iranian brothers and sister who have to hide their faces behind their pride flag because any other option would mean certain death.
While the drumming becomes quicker on our American march toward full equality, let’s never forget that we still have a lot of work ahead of us when it comes to spreading those rights and riches across the world.
