Romney (Deservedly) Booed by NAACP During Pandering, Racist Speech

I understand the big story here is that Mitt Romney was thoroughly booed by the NAACP for declaring he’d repeal the hell out of Obamacare, but can we please also talk about the curious inflection Romney pronounced his words with during the speech?

“Sumpin?” Seriously?

Call it pandering. Call it racist. Call it whatever the hell you want. Because chances are, yes, it’s probably also whatever word you would use to describe Romney creeping it at the NAACP. Real talk, a white bajillionaire trolling for votes does not simply address the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People with the word sumpin.

Gross.

Also, LOL at Romney saying he will be better to the black community than President Obama!

“Ladies leave your man at home. The club is full of ballers and they pockets full grown. And all you fellas leave your girl with her friends. ‘Cuz it’s 11:30 and the club is Sumpin Sumpin.”

Lol, Romney earned a BA in English and attended Harvard. I haven’t had anywhere near that kind of education and have never in my life used the word ‘sumpin” or pandered to an ethnic audience in hopes of sounding like “one of them”.

Which he didn’t he said “somethin” I watched this video like 5 times trying to catch him saying “sumpin” and I’m not hearing it. I even studied his lips to see if he was even giving any implication to a “P” sound and I’m not seeing it. If he was really pandering as this article suggests then I would assume that he would have said a little more than “sumpin”. And I’ll say again I hate Romney, but he wasn’t being racist and he didn’t say “sumpin”. Also, the article headline leads you to believe that the audience booed him for what he said, but they booed him because of what he said about Obamacare. Just another reason that this article is ridiculous.

I love how everyone who replied is white. If you were black you would understand how much that shit pisses you off. I went to school like everyone else and never in my life have I used the word “sumpin”. What the hell does that even mean? It’s racist because he thinks we all talk like that. I didn’t hear sumpin, I heard somethin’. I heard him say somethin’
twice. He didn’t even purse his lips like he made a “P” sound. There is
absolutely no reason for anyone to be offended about what he said.
You’re being too sensitive for no reason. And who cares if everyone that
replied is white? That is an unnecessary observation and just furthers
the separation of races. If it was the other way around and everyone
that responded was black and I got on here and commented about that,
someone would probably go off on me and say that I was being racist for
saying that. Anyway point being this post is just fishing for racism so it can ensure no black person votes for Romney, which is fine I just wish they didn’t try to fish for racism. That’s annoying.

Michael, I have to respectfully disagree with you. It sounds very much like he said “sumpin.” In fact, if you listen to the whole sentence, he said it right the first way and then, as if he remembered he was supposed to use “sumpin” at some point in the speech (and yes, politicians do think that way) he followed it up with two sumpins to be sure it was in there – “…that’s something I’d change and I’d replace with sumpin that provides the people sumpin they need in health care…” I clearly hear the p sound in the two latter words but not the first one; he didn’t just drop the g.
