In 2007 creationists Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort participated in a televised debate, parts of which were aired on ABC Nightline, on the existence of God. Comfort says they produced imaginary composite pictures of what “we imagined would be genuine species-to-species transitional forms. We called one a ‘crocoduck’ and another was called a ‘birddog.’ These pictures were used to show exactly what they thought evolutionists believe, but can’t back up through the fossil record.”[4] Their composite picture of the imaginary “crocoduck” showed the head of a crocodile on a duck’s body.

This claim was widely publicised and ridiculed as an example of creationist misconceptions. In The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution, the evolutionary scientist Richard Dawkins included a section titled ‘Show me your crocoduck!’ in which he compared this to the question put by another creationist as to why there was no transitional fossil ”fronkey” between frogs and monkeys, and described it as a warped misunderstanding of evolution.

So you want me to take “God at his word”, is that it? Where is this word? Please show me exactly what God’s word is. I know there is a Bible full of man’s stories and words but that’s not God’s word. Why would a creator of the Universe decide that marriage is yet another thing he needs to create in a Universe full of love. “Yep, this Universe thing is coming together nicely. Galaxies. Check. Stars. Check. Planets. Check. Let me just add marriage to it and it’ll be complete. Oh yea, and let me make that only between one man and one woman because that’s they only way love can really happen. Check. Done.”

Why wouldnt everything he says here apply to two married men or two married women? I mean if a couple is having marriage difficulties, does it matter what their sex is? I will guarantee that I have the same problems in my gay relationship that he has in his straight relationship. I didnt hear anything anti-gay in this, though I realize the organization is anti gay. Just ironic that if he is so empowered by God to save the future of the human race via strong marriage and family then why discriminate against one married couple over another.

Yeah, I agree with Jason. While the implication that this is anti-gay is very clear (and the presenter Damian Goddard makes it even more clear), nothing that Cameron says HERE is anti-gay. It’s just about how he thinks God thinks marriage should be. I really don’t care, and, as much as I love Unicorn Booty, this was very poorly titled.

This argument doesn’t make any sense. How can a thing, (this video), imply something, (as you say), but not really mean anything? He’s taking a position: God has defined marriage. The way that argument is interpreted today is: The only true type of marriage is heterosexual. So, he’s arguing against something, correct? So the antithesis is: Gay marriage is somehow wrong or unGodly. Tell me how that is not anti-gay?

*sigh* I am not saying that I agree with Kirk Cameron. I am not saying that he in not anti-gay. I obviously do not agree with anything about the National Organization for Marriage. I mostly had a problem with the video’s title, which created an expectation that, for me, was not met. The only thing that makes Cameron’s comments anti-gay in this clip is the way in which they are framed (if we did not hear the presenter’s comments before and after Cameron’s clip and see the NOM logo in the corner, none of Cameron’s comments are directly anti-gay). He does not mention anything about marriage equality, “traditional” marriage, or gay people in general. Rather, he talks about how Christians who are already married can work on their marriages. Due to the title, “Kirk Cameron Films Anti-Gay PSA,” however, I was expecting to at least hear him mention his thoughts on marriage equality and/or the LGBT community. I did not hear that. If the title had been, “Kirk Cameron Films a PSA about Christian Marriage,” I would have no problem with it. I simply would not have watched it because I do not care what his general views are about how to live life as a Christian because I am not a Christian. I hope that makes sense.

I didn’t hear anything anti gay in that. In fact, I agree with the basic sentiment of his entire statement. The only thing that he and I would likely disagree on is that a Gay couple can fit that model of love just as well as any straight couple.

I saw the logo and I am very familiar with who they are. What I am saying is that I did not HEAR a single anti gay word in that video. He expressed his belief that happy families and marriages are the glue of society. I don’t agree 100%, but I do agree. NOM will no doubt take the video and bookend it with anti-gay rhetoric, but to declare this an anti-gay video in and of it self is over stepping.

I wonder if the guy in the beginning of the video realizes that Apple, the computer he’s standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF, is a champion for gay rights?

Why isn’t the irrelevant Cameron worried about children without ANY good role model, the millions of heterosexuals who get divorced, the orphans, the children who are mercilessly beat each night, the people to go to church on Sunday and spout the same rubbish and go home and sexually abuse their children. What about them?

Absolute rubbish. He is living in an idealised fantasy world. To say that love and joy can only be achieved through marriage between a man and a woman is ludicrous. It really makes me wonder whether he is actually gay himself and hiding behind religion to deny what he is. Wouldn’t be the first one.

I regards to last 20 seconds of the video, I know a lot of people facing threats to there self, property and livelihood because they speak up for marriage and religious liberty. Coincidentally the threats are made by many of the people who support this organization. I think someone needs to point out to them the definition of liberty.

Why is it when these nudniks say “Faith” they believe it can only mean THEIR faith.

Also did anyone actually see “Fireproof”? I am pretty much a cinema junky and this is the only time I have even HEARD of it , but then again I see legitimate films not dog and pony shows shlepped from town to town by failed child stars.
By the way if you really wanted to defend marriage you would be doing more to prevent the 1 out of 2 divorce rate in Hetro marriages and wouldn’t have all this free time to attack marriage equality.

1. Gays have a higher success rate at staying together in the long run than straight couples.
2. Humans conceived the concept of marriage and the definition of marriage has changed extremely over the year. Especially in the last 100 years.
3. The Christian faith is not and cannot by the Constitution be promoted by the government.
