Gonzo and Camila to Chick-Fil-A: Cluck you!

The Jim Henson Company, parent company of more Muppets than you can shake a stick at, were just days away from rolling out a massive partnership with Chick-fil-A that would have sent millions of children home with Creature Shop toys in their kids meals over the next two months.

But ah, ah, ahhhh:

The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD.

Yes, yes, YES! Borrowing a page straight out of the Lady Gaga Target Contract Handbook, The Muppets have severed their contract with their homophobic chicken overlords, banned all future partnerships with Chick-Fil-A and donated the riches from the partnership straight to GLAAD.

Bravo, Jim Henson Company! And thank you! Between this and the mayor of Boston banning the homophobic fast food chain from the entire city, they playbook for dealing with corporate homophobia is being written and executed in crystal clear terms.

How happy are you to hear that Gonzo won’t be chowing down on Camila the chicken anytime in the future?

As a former Catholic I do believe you will find that the notion of family as what we define it as today is pretty modern. It’s all about multiple wives, slaughtering of infants andjustified rape. I’m not intolerant of the notion of a ‘traditional family.’ I come from a ‘traditional family’ of one father and one mother who have been married for nearly 40 years. I am also the male partner in a ‘traditional family’ of one man and one woman and have been with my wife and only my wife for nearly 15 years. However, I recognize that there are other types of families out there and that their love has no impact on my love. I applaud the Jim Henson company for standing up for equality and showing that money is less important than social justice.
