San Francisco Mayor Warns Chick-Fil-A to Stay the Hell Out of City Limits

Boston Mayor Thomas Menin made waffle fries cry out in agony last week when he banned Chick-Fil-A from the city limits using a bit of a creative mayoral privilege. Menin warned that the openly anti-gay company would have an impossible time securing a licence to practice business in the first state to legalize same-sex marriage, as CEO Dan Cathy’s brand of discrimination was anathema to the equality of Boston residents.

Now San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee is throwing the power vested in him by the state of California behind a ban to keep homophobic chicken sandwiches out of SF as well.

Are you proud of Mayors Lee and Menin for standing up for the rights and fair treatment of their LGBT constituents? Or do you think that they are overstepping their mayoral powers?

Hurray for him. These bans may or may not have an effect on Chick-fil-a but at least they send a message to Cathy (I love calling him that) that we don’t all share his intolerance and that we don’t have room for it in an accepting global community. Those old ideas need to die out and the only way that will happen is when people stand up against them. Good on Mayor Menin.

I dont think they go far enough. Republicans already use zoning, police raids and other tactics to close down gay bars, bookstores and worse against clinics like planned parenthood. Time for progressive cities and states to return the favor to regressive businesses.

I have never eaten at a Chicken Filler, and now that I know, I will not do so unless it is the only option. The seemingly fascist direction this country (world?) is taking is frightening. Both parties are culpable. However, if the Republicans were doing this, they would convince everybody they were gun-hating pusses if they did not boycott. So, there is plenty of hypocrisy to go around. Regardless, corporations (“people”) just found out that people really are getting tired of the status quo. Wendy’s survived our boycott, but that was in another place and time. Things have changed.

Today I can afford to be a bit more of a hypocrite, so I appreciate that all of the walls of Chick Filler are running into ours.

While clearly on shaky ground with banning an entire business, at least I know elected officials in San Francisco are represented the people (the biological variety, not corporate). Shady deals may go on behind closed doors, but kudos to those who at least were intelligent enough to take a stand on this, immediately. Chicken Filler may win, but we will never forget efforts to stop them.

Right or wrong, things just got better. A lot (uh, the entire world was just put on notice this past week, and it feels really good). Some of us just are not afraid anymore.

This is for the youth of the world. For the homeless LGBT teens…

I may not live to see it, but what a day when we all stand together, so that we can turn our focus to restoring the planet instead of raping it.

Finally! Standing up to these bigots shows other people that its not just a “gay thing” its a human rights thing. People have boycotted my business because I support gay rights, so let them eat cake……or chicken…..or their own crap I don’t really care. Well done SF and Boston, thats what being a leader is. You should. I escaped Louisiana for San Francisco and I’ve never been happier with my daily life, my job, my future prospects, the quality of people I interact with daily, the freedom to be who I am, and of course, my wife. It’s a major difference here that I think you’d be able to enjoy (and natives like my wife take for granted, haha).

I ate Chick-Fil-A about a week ago… It was good. I am gay and I find it none of my business what they decide to do with my money. If I am craving a good chicken sandwich I will probably find myself back at Chick-Fil-A…. We live among openly homophobic people everywhere… I’m not going to make myself disappear and coward away from people who have a difference of opinion than I. I feel like the more we make a big deal out of something, the more it will come back and try to make an even bigger deal. Call me ignorant and naive… But damn, they have amazing chicken.

I think if you want to preach tolerance, you should not boycott a business because of what the president believes in. At least the man was honest and did not lie about what he believed just to satisfy a market. So, I say kudos to him. I think if you want anti-gay people to respect the gay community, the gay community should respect anti-gay people and not be hypocritical. Let the man believe what he wants, just as you should believe what you want. He is a Christian president of a restaurant chain that isn’t open on Sundays, so how did you expect him to answer when asked his view on gay marriage?? Let’s be real.

People have a right to their opinion and this restaurant isn’t different it’s not right to exclude them (even if they are haters) because that’s just doing what has happened to us. It’s hypocritical. You can disagree with them and not want to visit one but there are people who do and you can’t restrict others rights.

No they are not stepping over there bounderies. This is what a good leader does. The simple act of sharing their opinion is enough to create a positive effect without having to actually inforce policies on the business itself.
