Unicorn Booty Parent Co. Skyfish Inc. is Officially a Louisiana Benefit Corporation

This little fishy is having a big, big day.

Louisiana made history this morning by becoming one of the first states in the country to write Benefit Corporation business structure into law. And I should know! Skyfish, my company that owns and operates Unicorn Booty, made the transition from LLC to Incorporated under the new law today.

Matter L3C’s Tippy Tippens had the privilege of being the first to receive Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler’s signature and blessing, but thanks to a bit of a mix-up and drive across town, Skyfish Inc. was the first to actually file – A distinction which we intend to hold over her head ad infinitum. Bwahaha!

So what is a Benefit Corporation?

Basically, it’s a company required by law to provide value to society in addition to shareholders. The motto “Gay is good” was built into the DNA of Unicorn Booty and parent company Skyfish Media, LLC from the very beginning. Our transition to Skyfish Inc. today simply carves this focus into stone.

Skyfish Inc. has a very simple mission: To increase the prosperity of discriminated communities across America through socially-conscious capitalism. By combining the impact of online content creation and community building with real-world events, products and brick-and-mortar establishments, Skyfish Inc. aims to achieve full equality for all peoples.

The Unicorn Booty that you know and love will stay exactly the same (We have a daily reach of over half a million people on Facebook alone now! If it ain’t broke…), but we’ll be putting our money where our mouth is when our New Orleans restaurant, Booty’s, opens in September and our non-profit arm, Gay It Forward, starts making waves in the near future. Our Benefit Corporation status marries our rock hard social media muscles with our passion for social good.

We’re grateful every single day that ya’ll turn up each day for a fresh serving of all the gay treasures we can mine from the interwebs. We can hardly believe that UB has grown into the biggest LGBT news and pop culture site in the world in just two years. Thank you for caring, sharing and showing up!
