Chick-Fil-A Vandalized by (Accurate) ‘Tastes Like Hate’ Graffiti

Look, we’re not condoning vandalism here, but who didn’t see something like this coming?

Chick-fil-A employees were greeted Fridays morning with the words “Tastes like hate” scrawled in large black lettering mimicking the chain’s advertising across the back wall of the restaurant at 182nd Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance, CA.

With media helicopters hovering overhead and police officers on the scene, one employee said, “I’m just trying to sort everything out.”

Chick-fil-A has been at the center of media scrutiny and public debate ever since the company’s president publicly expressed his opposition to same-sex marriage.

What do you have to say about this ugly (but accurate) graffiti in your namesake, Torrance? T-T-T-Torrance?

Perhaps when detectives solve the mystery of the Great Chick-Fil-A Spray Paint Hate Caper they’ll get around to figuring out who burned that lesbian couple’s home to the ground on their anniversary or who spray painted “FAGS ARE FREAKS” on that guy’s property after setting his barn, and the 8 horses within, on fire.

But you know, priorities…

If you ask me, it was probably one those cows. They practically even signed their work!

I really hope that it wasn’t endorsed by any LGBT activism….that seriously hurts the position of spreading acceptance.

If this is true, then “hate” tastes pretty good (unless a person doesn’t like chicken).

But seriously, Michael has a good point – I didn’t think that it could have been a CFA supporter (or anyone) trying to escalate the issue (and have to admit there is artistic talent…). I think a protest by asking people to go to KFC instead of CFA may have had more impact than a “kiss in”. CFA supporters will probably outnumber gay marriage supporters on Friday – and many gays/lesbians wouldn’t want to have their pictures in the news (this could lead to hassling/bullying later), while other gays/lesbians think a “kiss in” is not a good way to deal with this at all..

Can’t say I didn’t see it coming, but I can’t say I’d support it either. I don’t like them, but I don’t like vandalism either. I may not be Christian or anything like that but I still stick to the whole “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.” Even if others don’t follow it with me, I’m no better if I stoop to their level. Anywayz the better way to deal with this sort of thing is just do business elsewhere. Doing illegal things or kiss ins or flash mobs don’t help because then we’re killing support by stepping on toes of what people believe by trying to force acceptance by a group who is morally against that kind of thing. We have to respect that they have their grounds not to accept us regardless of how unlogical it is to us and know when and how not to push or they will push back and it just escalates things more with nobody making proper headway. Be polite, be civil, be respectful even if they aren’t, and support will follow. If not then I’ve lost faith in humanity.

In response to the “do unto others” comment, I would say that if I owned a business that supported hate groups and openly denounced equal treatment, then everyone would have my full permission to vandalize my building. Not only that but I imagine that the person(s) who did this probably wouldn’t mind if someone tagged their building, at least that’s how a lot of the graffiti artists I’ve talked to think.

But really that’s all neither here nor there and I understand what it is that you’re saying.

I wouldn’t say that the graffiti is “ugly” by any means. The letters themselves a very well painted and stylized and the cow has accurate proportion (Sorry, I’m an art major with a particular interest in street art) I half expected to see some scribbled tag from a hardware store spray can when I clicked the link, but this is actually rather impressive, artistically speaking.

That being said I can’t say I condone it and it certainly doesn’t help the position, but like everyone else is saying, we all knew it was going to happen.

Although I find this to be funny. I don’t think that this was the way…Plus it sounds more like an outcry for attention from the artist then an actual protest. It is the work of an attention whore. Not someone for the cause.
