Parks & Recreation star (and total babe) Rashida Jones is so over closeted Hollywood stars protecting their “precious” careers by refusing to come out of the closet.

Spinning Platters has the funny lady’s thoughts on massage aficionado John Travolta.

How’s the Frank Ocean obsession coming along?

Jones: It’s there. It’s real and it’s there. We just missed him the other day in DC while we were there for press. I just love him. He is so great.

McCormack: There needs to be, like, a professional athlete that comes out.

Jones: And a movie star! It’s time.

McCormack: Yeah, like a big one.

Jones: A movie star. Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this.

Seriously though, Johnny. Let’s do this.

Yes, cause this is obviously meant as a call to arms for a giant gay witch hunt. Just leave the guy alone. Whether he is or not, everyone, celebrities included, have a right to their privacy. That is, unless they are vehemently anti-gay politicians/lobbyists. They give up that right when they intrude upon the rights of others. But in this case, Travolta is harmless. Leave him alone.

You have a right to your privacy up until you decide to start molesting people. And also, when you became a famous celebrity, you give up your right to privacy, whether you like it or not.

Yeah, when you become famous, you give it up to a degree. But non-famous people (aka, us) forget themselves. We expect celebrities to behave well, because we chastise them when they don’t- well, what about our own behavior? What about going to embarrassing lengths to prod the details out of a man’s private life? We as people forget ourselves, forget that we’re dealing with actual people, not just potential figure heads. In the end, this this sort of thing often says more about us than it does about the celebrity in question. (Especially if it’s a coming out issue. Let’s all try for a little empathy?)
As for the molesting thing, yeah, when that happens, all bets are off the table. But Travolta isn’t the first one who’s been put through the “everyone wants you to come out” wringer. We treat them the same every time, whether they did something wrong or not.
