Mitt Romney Doesn’t Care about Gay Couples’ Kids

"And then I says to her, 'I don't give a crap!'"

In a not-so-surprising revelation, another of Mitt Romney’s prior insensitivities towards the LGBT during his time as governor of Massachusetts have come to light. And it’s a doozy.

We knew about a few of them (blocking an anti-bullying guide because it contained the words “transgender” and “bisexual” and firing two state employees because they married their same-sex partners, among others), but this most recent revelation is just jaw-dropping.

Julie Goodridge and David Wilson, two of the plaintiffs whose case led to Massachusetts legalizing gay marriage, described a meeting with Romney to talk about LGBT issues and their case.

Goodridge noted that talking to Romney was like talking to a robot, and she explained that her final exchange with him proved he had “no capacity for empathy.”

GOODRIDGE: Governor Romney, tell me — what would you suggest I say to my 8 year-old daughter about why her mommy and her ma can’t get married because you, the governor of her state, are going to block our marriage?

ROMNEY: I don’t really care what you tell your adopted daughter. Why don’t you just tell her the same thing you’ve been telling her the last eight years.

Yes, this man is running for President of the United States.

Apparently after the meeting, Romney described it as pleasant to the media while Goodridge was brought to tears.

What kind of person would make such an insensitive claim? He didn’t even try to be a politician and shift the direction of the conversation to how much the Democrats are ruining America. He just flat out told that woman that he couldn’t care less about her daughter.

It’s kind of a crazy paradox that we can have this man be so against same-sex marriage, yet be the former governor of the first state to legalize it.

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised, given the fact that Romney bullied gay (or presumably gay) students as a teen and promised to amend the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage if elected president.

Keep it classy, Mittens. You’ll get no votes from me! Jerk.
