After Death of Her Husband, Woman Learns He was Also Her Father

Valeria Sprull had damn well better finish out 2012 on the cover of one of those shmancy women’s magazines with size 72 bold font declaring her a Woman of the Year. Because this lady has been put through the ringer.

Valeria Sprull and her gorgeous smile.

Following the death of her husband Percy at the age of 60, Valeria learned that her late spouse had also been her father. And that half of her hometown knew. Possibly including Percy. And nobody told her until he was dead.

Oh man oh man oh man.

He and Valerie’s mother hooked up when he was only 15.

We’re not sure how many offspring Percy Spruill helped produce, but at one point, apparently, he figured that one of them would be a suitable spouse.

Although Valerie says she is not 100 percent certain he knew, because he never talked about it, she strongly believes he was aware of the taboo he had committed but was simply afraid to tell her.

She fights the natural inclination to hate him, because people who hate don’t get into heaven, she says. And if you don’t make it into heaven when the time comes, she notes, you can’t hit the rewind button and try again.

DNA testing from an old hairbrush behind a piece of furniture provided the evidence proving that husband and father were the same man.

Valeria refuses to be shamed by the familial revelation, and is telling her story despite protests from relatives because she believes that every child has a right to know where they come from. Or in this case, from whom.

On a personal note, as somebody with the type of mysterious family tree that can bring a dinner party or a first date to a screeching halt, I’d like to say how impressed I am with this woman. The amount of inner peace she has been able to achieve isn’t easily achieved.

You go girl.
