Do We Haaave to Accept Paris Hilton’s Apology for Calling Us Disgusting AIDS Patients?

Forgive us if Paris Hilton’s apology for her comments about all gay guys being disgusting and probably having AIDS ring a bit insincere. But is anybody else getting major “teacher making the bully that torments the shit out of you each day in middle school apologize to your face for the one thing that she actually caught him saying” vibes from Hilton’s apology to GLAAD?

As anyone close to me knows, I always have been and always will be a huge supporter of the gay community. I am so sorry and so upset that I caused pain to my gay friends, fans and their families with the comments heard this morning. I was having this private conversation with a friend of mine who is gay and our conversation was in no way towards the entire gay community. It is the last thing that I would ever want to do and I cannot put into words how much I wish I could take back every word.

HIV/AIDS can hurt anyone, gay and straight, men and women. It’s something I take very seriously and should not have been thrown around in conversation.

Gay people are the strongest and most inspiring people I know. It is so wrong when people bully or put down others for being gay. No one should have to go through that. Again, I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart and I feel absolutely horrible. I hope that everyone can accept my apology and know that it is not who I am or how I feel in any way.

If we could all dial back just 24 hours in time though to Hilton’s original comments, I think we can all see exactly how seriously homegirl takes AIDS.

So here’s my question; Do we have to accept Paris Hilton’s apology? Wouldn’t asking her to wear a NOH8 duct tape muzzle for a year be a much better way to keep her from accidentally saying any other offensive, terrible things about gay people that she seriously doesn’t mean?

To be honest we have no idea what was said in the entire conversation and who really cares what Paris Hilton has to say about anything. Her opinion on anything means absolutely nothing, she’s a rich privileged girl who has everything because of her parents hard work. There are other people out there that say hateful things about the gay community that we as LGBT people should be more concerned about than Paris Hilton.

Actually we do. Her friend was talking about Grindr (and showing her the app), and then she proceeded to say how gay guys were the “horniest people” and that gay men were “disgusting and probably all have AIDS”. Sounds pretty straight forward to me. (Slightly ironic that she became “famous” for a ‘leaked’ sex tape isn’t it? Perfect role model for little girls everywhere right there! Contributes nothing to society and is famous because of a sex tape…)

I don’t think she should have to apologize. If this is how she feels about people that use the Grindr app, then so be it. It’s probably the view of ALOT of straight (and gay) people, they just don’t verbalize it. Being a gay man, I have the same feelings about an app that is used to find the nearest person to have sex with. Not the best thing for the gay community in my opinion, but it’s just that, my opinion.

I dont really care for her anyways, so what she says is inconsequential to me.

Only problem with that is, whether she’s talking about the app or not, she says “gay guys” as if she’s talking about the entire community. “Most of them” again is totally casting a blanket onto the entire community. I don’t use grindr either, and I don’t think I know anyone who does (but who can be sure), so instead of casting such a wide net, maybe what she should have said was something along the lines of “Those apps and sites aren’t doing any good for the gay community.” She can feel however she likes about the app, but what she said was just horrible and wrong. Though I agree w/ you that she isn’t important enough to have gotten this much attention over it.

If she had a clue her statements were going to be broadcast to the world I’m sure she would have phrased things differently. I am betting that in private conversations with friends we have all said things that would not play well in public. That being said. I still really don’t care about her anyway so this whole issue is just stupid to me to begin with.

I think she was referring to the app, and the guys on it, you know like a ditzy blonde.. “Ewww… they are so gross. Most of them probably have aids. They are so disgusting.” I’m not saying what she said is Ok. I just see that it might have been taken a bit out of context and stretched to make it seem she was talking about the ENTIRE gay community. As much as I usually detest Paris, this whole thing is sensationalizing her comments. Everyone knows Paris is a FagHag and has no issue with gay people. She was making an off handish comment about “certain” gay guys who pursue tons of anon-sex. Its nothing new that promiscuity is frowned upon. The AIDs thing was said in a joking kind of way, at least it appears that way to me. “She said shes a pusher…..probably drug pusher”, it is satire commonly used by gays and eccentric comedians.

The media makes a circus out of everything. A celebrity buys a roll of toilet paper at kmart and its all you hear about for 6 weeks. Honestly, being gay myself, it didnt really bother me at all. She was probably drunk or stoned, after all, she is a party girl. While I dont drink alcohol myself, at all, I do have to say I’ve noticed people saying and doing things they otherwise would not do being sober.
