Anna Paquin Feels No Need to Reconcile Her Marriage with Her Bisexuality to You

America’s favorite bisexual, Anna Paquin dismisses the haters in the latest issue of Red Magazine, telling the magazine that it’s not her job to reconcile her marriage to a man with her bisexuality to anybody out there.

“I am a happily married woman and I married a man. I don’t think that negates that aspect of my life, but obviously I wouldn’t be with my husband if I didn’t want to be married to a man,” she explained.

“Some people find it odd that you can identify with a sexual orientation that is not straight and yet be married to someone of the opposite sex. They’re like, ‘Obviously it’s not real if you’re married to a dude’. That’s not my problem. I’m like, ‘Okay, if that’s how you feel, there’s nothing I can do about it’. I’m just living my life,” Paquin said.

The 30-year-old also said realizing her sexual orientation as a teenager was not an “Oh my God moment”, adding: “It’s just part of who I am.”

That’s sad that anyone gives so much weight to bisexuality like it’s not a valid sexual orientation. As a lesbian with a transgender wife who has not started any sort of transition so is basically a man in every way physically, it doesn’t make me any less gay. It just makes sex a little different, and that is no one’s business but ours.

@CarolynArita – Well said – thank you for sharing this. As a bisexual woman, I often feel shunned and invisible in the LGBT community. Sexuality is not so black and white and I wish more people realised this.

The only time I’ve had people have an issue with my bisexuality was when I was part of the GLBT club at my college. For a group of people that shared the experience of being harassed and discriminated against, they were so hateful toward any bisexuals.

Yeah, it’s strange how much of a bad attitude that three of the letters in the LGBT community have toward that fourth letter. You’d think people who have been discriminated against and treated like second class citizens would have a better attitude about such things, but that’s apparently not always true.

I’ve not met any transphobic bi people, myself. I’m not saying they don’t exist (and my experiences may just be a statistic anomaly), but every time I’ve heard transphobic comments said by a person who’s sexual orientation I knew, it’s been from a straight person or a gay/lesbian person.

This is like when Anne Heche got married to a man, and everyone was like “Wait, what about those years you spent with Ellen DeGeneres?!” or whatever. Unfortunately, when the topic was brought up in the one interview I saw, instead of asking if she still considered herself bisexual (which I think is how she always identified), the idiot interview asks her “Are you still attracted to women?”, which isn’t really the same question. She had just gotten married, so it makes sense she’s gonna say “No, I’m not attracted to anyone else”. That’s not the same thing as addressing a deep matter regarding one’s sexual orientation. At any rate, it’s not really any of our business anyway, other than that it might help other people who are still struggling to sort that part of their life out.
