One Million Moms Protests New Gay-Friendly TV Show and I Agree With Them

One Million Moms is protesting a new gay-friendly drama on ABC-Family, and I agree with them.

Before you get cray-cray, hear me out: The news here isn’t that One Million Moms (OMM) has their panties in a bunch over “The Fosters,” which will tell the story of two lesbian moms raising both biological and adopted children.

The news is that Jennifer Lopez will be the executive producer.

I just… I… what even.. how?

Does anyone remember Gigli? How about her “Goin’ In” music video? I know, these examples don’t necessarily add to her portfolio as a producer, but I’m not exactly moist over J-Lo’s visual work. I’ll dance all night to her jams, but the minute I have to look at her videos, I’m out (exception: Selena).

You can read OMM’s rant over here if you want. There’s nothing new, though.

Let me get real for a second about OMM, if it’s even necessary: The pilot hasn’t been filmed, casting hasn’t been done, and there isn’t even a IMDB page for the show yet.

Hm…people, including you, come to this site…click on these pages….read them…so yea, I’d say people want to see what Kevin has to say. That’s the point of these pieces. Its interesting to see opinions made, especially with titles such as the one chosen for this post. And clearly, you completely missed the point. One Million Moms didn’t actually say anything about J-Lo. You know those blue/purple links in the text that you can highlight up there and click on them to redirect you to sources? Do that, then calm your tits.

I thought the “Goin’ In” music video was fun and exciting. I’m not even a big fan of J. Lo, but I have to give her props for it because of the intensity and the pure entertainment value of it. Anyways, this is good news regardless of who is producing it. Lesbian content should be celebrated in the mainstream line-up. Thanks for the news, but your opinion is off on this one (and her music video.)

Does one really need “lesbian cred” to produce fictional media about lesbians? I wasn’t aware that gay people were an exclusive club with copyright laws on the concept of gayness. Is it okay to create media about racial strife if you’re white? Feminism if you’re a man? Come on now. We need more media that deals with meaningful, human interest topics in a thoughtful way, and I’m not about to complain about who is doing the creating. Wait until the show comes out to judge it, mkay? Mkay.

I don’t think the author was protesting on the grounds of sexual orientation of the producer, but rather the quality of her previous work. Nowhere in the article does it mention her sexual orientation as an issue. The author cites his reasons to be his apparent dislike of her “visual work”. What I take to mean he doesn’t care for how she appears on screen, aside from Selena. I have no idea where you read that his objections are based on whether or not she’s a lesbian. I can only conclude that you did not actually read the article but merely skimmed the title, hopped onto you self-righteous soapbox, and pulled out Standard Angry Rant #127 out of your Tomb of Preconceived Defensive Arguments. May I suggest actually reading the article and then perhaps constructing a based argument from there, but then who am I kidding, that may actually involve cognitive thought, “mkay? Mkay.”

The “lesbian cred” part was a direct quote from the article, and was a vital component of my “cognitive thought.” The article has been edited. I will say, though, your comment was a fine example of a “Standard Angry Rant” from your own “Tomb of Preconceived Angry Rants” collected by an Angry Ranter who would never actually say such things to another person’s face. Too bad it lacked any genuine context.

I don’t feel that its right to have bias or attack the idea of the show just because of J-Lo. If we are going to move anywhere as the LGBT Community, we need to start somewhere. Let the show happen and judge it later. There is not much main stream and prime time television material out that that promote Lesbians (at least not in a positive manner). Next project has to be the Transgendered. As crazy as it sounds, I would watch a prime time Trangender promoting show even if it was produced, directed, etc by Justin Bieber! The point is to get our message out there in any way possible.
