Get Out and Vote – Because Homophobia is Always Just Around the Corner
I shared some of LPAC Chair Sarah Schmidt’s sage lesbian wisdom with y’all after I returned home from dot429′s StraightTalk 2012 conference in NYC earlier this month. Does “If You Cannot Vote for My Equality, Then Please Do Not Vote” ring any bells?
The panel that birthed that conversation was by far the highlight of the entire weekend, and I would be selling Schmidt’s fellow speakers short by not sharing this video bristling with urgency and prudence from Pennsylvania’s first LGBT member of Congress Brian Simms, legendary activist David Mixner, San Francisco AIDs Foundation President Neil Giuliano.
Mixner says it best when describing the necessity of reelecting President Obama to a second term; “We have no choice but to be involved. This isn’t a side project of ‘I’m interested in politics.’ Because I promise you that homophobia is always just around the corner.”
If your state allows early voting, then by all means get your ass down to the polls to take advantage of this service. Lines may be long, cars may not start, and hangovers may be present come Election Day. And if your state doesn’t allow early voting, then we had better see you out and about on November 6.
Again, many thanks to these four for sharing their time and passion with us all at dot429′s StraightTalk 2012. Smooch!
