Obama! Marriage Equality! Tammy Baldwin! Elizabeth Warren! We Won. We Won So Hard!
Confession: I fell asleep as the polls were coming in last night! My partner woke me up when Ohio was called in President Obama’s favor and I mumbled a yay before passing back out. Anti-climactic! UGH!
But now that I am fully refreshed in the light of day, I can hardly believe just how much ground we won last night. We re-elected President Obama! Tammy Baldwin has become the first openly gay U.S. Senator! Elizabeth Warren will continue to protect the rest of us from the seedy underbelly of the banking and credit card industries in Ted Kennedy’s former Senate chair. We booted pro-rape monsters Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock from public service!
And OMFG, Maryland, Maine, and Washington State all passed marriage equality! ALL OF THEM! And Minnesota voters turned down an amendment to ban same-sex marriage in the state!
And if you’re feeling frisky, Colorado and Washington State just legalized recreational marijuana use.
So basically, you can finally gay-marry your lesbian lover while smoking a joint in Seattle, and pay for the whole thing on credit! I didn’t even realize that’s what we were fighting for, yet here we are.
In all seriousness, congratulations to us all. We fought for our rights in a very literal sense, we showed up, we voted, and we won!
