Online Dating Nightmare: Gay Man Killed After Internet Meetup
And you thought you had been on some of the worst online dating misadventures of all time. Well, the worst of your worst have nothing on this poor guy.
The body of Graham Flax, 65, was found under a duvet in the corridor outside his flat in the Costa Bravo apartment building, reported Die Burger.
His friend, Atol McLaggan, said Flax had gone to meet someone, but wasn’t sure if it was a friend or a date. He added that Flax often went on internet dates.
That this grizzly murder happened in South Africa, which legalized same-sex marriage in 2006, just goes to show that we still have a long, long way to go before LGBT people the world over are safe and sound. Well, that and the fact that people are just the absolute worst, aren’t they?
How could somebody with such a healthy name meet such an untimely, terrible fate? Our condolences go out to Graham’s family, friends and loved ones. And the entire South African LGBT community. Be safe, y’all!
***A number of UB readers would like me to point out that it’s always a good idea to let a friend know where you’re headed when you meet somebody online in real life. Good advice.
