The Joy of Cooking - Now with teen sex!

Our neighbors across the pond sure know a thing or two about courting controversy. The UK’s Channel 4, the same channel that brought viewers Queer As Folk and Skins, is under fire for it’s newest late night lightning rod of a program. The show? The Joy of Teen Sex. Whoa.

Hollywood Reporter…reports:

The series, which began airing at the beginning of the year in the 10 p.m. slot, features a series of young adults being given advice on first-time anal sex, improving lesbian sex, the use of sex toys and information about genital embellishment. It has featured scenes where a 17-year-old girl is given explicit images of intercourse to develop her range of sex skills, a 20-year-old boy is advised how to deal with the pain of anal sex and a young woman is seen having a plaster-cast made of her vagina.

There’s no way in hell this show would fly in America. Although, I’m sure that’s what many were saying when Skins, which was recently picked up by MTV, first premiered on Channel 4.

The television network is being criticized for emphasizing technique and toys, but failing to discuss issues like choice, the right to say no, or communication between partners.

Mediawatch U.K. director Vivienne Pattison warned that the program “crosses the line into prurience, with graphic scenes of sex that can only be described as pornographic.” From the sound of things, we may be inclined to agree.

Sex education is a powerful tool, but is primetime television the best medium for it? Without having seen the program, it’s hard to weigh in. We’d try and hunt it down online, but that’s suddenly not the best idea.

Do you think The Joy of Teen Sex is too hot for t.v.?

You might try and see if it is on the BBC’s media player… you would need a UK proxy server to watch anything though

  • 20 year old boy? WTF?
