Brooklyn Rapper Mousey Baby Could Spend 25 Years in Prison for Homophobic Knife Attack

Brooklyn-based rapper Mousey Baby (a.k.a. James Thomas) has been charged with a hate crime for attacking a trio of men outside of a gay club. Screaming homophobic slurs, Thomas slashed one man with a knife, stabbed another man and pushed a third man to the ground.

On March 5 at 4:30 a.m., Thomas came across three men who had just left a gay nightclub in Bed-Stuy and were going out for some fried chicken.

DNA Info describes what happened next:

Thomas strolled into the eatery and started hurling anti-gay insults at the crowd before slashing one man in the face with a knife and fleeing, officials said.

Thomas then headed back down Franklin Avenue, where he encountered two other men leaving the club, prosecutors said. Thomas pushed one man to the ground and threatened him with a knife before turning to the other and stabbing him twice in the torso and once in the shoulder when the man tried to help his friend, authorities said.

Thomas left the scene before the police arrived, but he was caught on video. The authorities released security camera footage of the assailant’s face:

Not long after that, Thomas turned himself in to the police.

If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison for a variety of felony charges. Bail was set at $150,000.

Acting Brooklyn District attorney Eric Gonzalez plans to prosecute Thomas to the fullest extent of the law. In a statement, he said:

In Brooklyn, everyone, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or religion must be able to safely walk the streets without fear of being senselessly attacked. This defendant’s alleged actions were particularly egregious as he attacked three innocent people simply because he perceived them to be gay. We will now seek to hold him accountable.
