‘The Sex Pixels’ Turns Digitized Dicks into Art (NSFW)

A pair of artists in New Orleans have been turning gay porn into heavily-pixelated art. Their project, The Sex Pixels: Pixelated Gay PorNtraits, explores the concept of eroticism in the digital era and blurs the line between pornography and art. (It blurs a lot of dicks and buttholes, too.)

Sex Pixels is a collaboration between partners Chad Robin and Chris Jacob. According to Jacob, the images are made from porn stills, along with photos he takes of celebrities, models and himself with his partner. These images are then digitally-altered to abstraction.

“Sometimes you have to move to a certain angle or take the piece down off the wall and back away to see what it is,” Jacob says. Titles like Asses in Pool and Leather Daddy Sling Fuck provide clarification as well.

“I think the inspiration for the project came from our sort perverted art sense,” Jacob says. “[Chad and I] are both very into sex and art, so we naturally just started melding the two. I think we both want to see homoerotic images whenever we can, but straight up porn stills are not always appropriate.”

“It can be really sexy playful work to have hanging in your home,” Jacob says. “It’s sort of a balance between class and perversion.”

If you’ve ever wanted a pixelated image of your anus, you’re in luck. The artists are open to private sessions.
