I suppose it was because she has a short haircut and wasn’t wearing a dress. That’s the law in Alabama, yes?

  • Even more strangely, she was arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Surely everyone involved in the fight (it was apparently quite a brawl) should have been arrested for the same things.

This is why places like those featured in the documentary “Small Town Gay Bar” exist – so people like Gilbert have a place to have fun without getting their asses kicked.

  • Me and my gay-bashing cousin got into a fight outside of a bar one night in Iowa, and I called the police as I was getting the daylight punched out of me. They came, and charged him with assault, and seemed it only fitting to charge me with disorderly conduct for causing a “loud and raucous noise outside of a public vacinity.” Revert back to the bar story…with the live dj, and tons of drunkards! Apparently I was disturbing them by being too loud! Needless to say the judge threw that out like week old coffee!

  • I’m a lesbian and I live in Alabama.. I don’t go to ‘straight’ bars for this reason. Drunk men are ridiculous! Our little gay bar might be small, crowded and about to fall apart.. But I don’t get gay-bashed or beaten up when I go.
